Bishop Endgames
Two flavours: same-coloured bishops, where a pawn's colour and the fight for good-vs-bad bishop decide things, and opposite-coloured bishops, famous for their drawing tendency: often a whole extra pawn (or two) isn't enough.
How to spot it: place your pawns on the opposite colour to your bishop so it stays mobile; with opposite-coloured bishops, set up a fortress when defending, or create two separated passers when attacking.
