The Double Check
A double check checks the king with two pieces at once: the moving piece and the one it discovers. It is the most forcing move in chess: blocking and capturing are useless because you can't stop two attackers in one move. The king must move.
How to spot it: it's a discovered check where the piece you move also gives check. Because the king is forced to walk, double checks power the most spectacular king hunts and smothered mates.
