The practical plan
White develops toward the centre, castles and chooses between an early d4 break and the quieter c3 and d3 setup. The bishop on c4 keeps f7 under observation while the remaining pieces join the centre.
Typical pawn structure
In quieter lines the central pawn structure stays flexible. White often improves the queenside knight, brings a rook to e1 and prepares d4 only when the pieces support it.
A common mistake to avoid
An attack on f7 is not automatically sound. Avoid premature knight or bishop sacrifices unless the calculation proves the king cannot consolidate.
