Quiet Moves
The hardest move to find in a combination is often the quiet one: not a check or a capture, but a calm move that leaves the opponent with no defence to an overwhelming threat. Zugzwang and mating nets are built from quiet moves.
How to spot it: after the forcing moves run out, don't give up: look for the still move that keeps the net closed: a threat of mate, a square taken away, a passed pawn one step from queening. Silence can be the loudest move on the board.
